The Classic Mode, found in Tiger and earlier versions of Mac OS X, disappeared in Leopard and has not returned in Snow Leopard. An emulator such as SheepSaver or Mini vMac would work, though it would be more work to set up than the (formerly) built-in Classic Mode.

I have an old Mac OS 7 application written in Symantec Think C++ 8 which I'd like to resurrect. I can run my old Mac OS 8.x image on Basilisk II exactly as it was at the time of development, including the extensions, environment and all the rest working perfectly, under Windows or Mac OS X on an Intel CPU. But when I try to open the project file through 'THINK Project Manager' or 'Symantec Project Manager', I get this error message: must be run on a Power Macintosh. Of course, Basilisk II does not emulate PowerPC! When I had a Wintel box as my desktop I spent a lot of time configuring PearPC -- it would run using the official Apple installation media but not install my development environment.

I can't seem to get 'close enough' on either setup! Is there a PowerPC emulator for Mac OS X Snow Leopard + Intel CPU that runs OS 8/9 fairly well? Leetcode app for mac.

Will I need to reinstall from original media or will I be able to 'convert' my Basilisk disk image and move it over?

February 23, 2012 Virtual ][, “The Best Apple II Emulator”, for Mac saw an update and now sits at version 6.5. Get it from the Box File Widget located on the blog homepage, or from their Let’s check out the changes. • Fixed an issue where the Mockingboard card could halt the virtual machine (this happened, for example, in Ultima IV). • Corrected an issue in the “floating bus” screen rendering, thereby improving compatibility. • Fixed an issue that could cause stray pixels on the emulated screen when switching from 80-column text to low-resolution graphics. • Improved screen rendering perfomance by using Apple’s Grand Central Dispatch technology.

February 6, 2012 The Virtual ][ emulator for Mac saw an update late last month. It now sits at version 6.4.1.

You can download this and many other emulators in the Box File Widget located on the right hand side of this blog or from their. Let’s scope out the changes.

What’s new in version 6.4 • Dropped support for Mac OS X 10.5 and the PowerPC processor. The program now requires an Intel Mac running Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or better.

• Added a feature to change the write protection and volume number of disk images. • It is now possible to configure a 65C02 processor in an Apple ][ or ][+ virtual machine.

• When choosing “Copy as Text” from the Edit menu, international characters on the screen are now correctly copied to the Mac clipboard. • Improved the quality of the QuickLook preview and thumbnail of a saved state file. • Some custom character sets were not accepted by the virtual machine – this has been fixed. • Fixed a number of minor issues, thereby improving the overall stability of the program.

What’s new in version 6.4.1 Corrected some minor issues that were introduced in version 6.4: • Double-clicking a disk in the Finder didn’t work anymore when Virtual ][ did not run – this has been fixed. • All pictures in the Inspector Help were missing – this has been corrected.
