I also noticed that when I unplug the HDMI cable form the graphics card and reboot to get the LCD monitor to work, there is a black bar as if part of the wallpaper is cut out until I go back to the regular wallpaper. I was using a program called background switcher which left the black bar permanently after unplugging the HDMI cable and just using the DVI for the computer monitor. I believe I have come to the conclusion that the reason why the LCD computer monitor forces the desktop to have black bars is because it is duplicating the HDTV's resolution of 1920 x 1080 and so in order to do it digitally progressive it shrinks the top and bottom accordingly from the native resolution of 1920 x 1200 to 1920 x 1080, the same as the 27 inch digital tv. I have not used VGA in MANY years as it is older analog and does NOT produce anywhere near the resolution and quality of the HD monitors and so there is NEVER EVER any reason to use the VGA. No monitors come with that anymore.
